Good Days and Bad Days.

Today,

I liked being a doctor.

Nothing about today was special. I saved nobody’s life. I did nothing but hold a camera in the OR.

Maybe it was hearing patients greet my female chief resident as “doctor”  and treat her with respect. Or maybe it was the patients in pre-op who were nice and knew their medical history and smiled back at me. Or maybe it was the charge nurse who went out of her way to run across the hospital for a patient, even though she didn’t have to.

Today,

I saw human beings

treating human beings

like human beings.
